A group of ten convicted of digital abuse directed at Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has convicted ten people for engaging in the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President, Emmanuel Macron.

The accused individuals faced charges of spreading untruths regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the couple's significant age difference.

The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has not yet been published.

A circulating false narrative suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.

This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons pursuing a defamation lawsuit in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's gender.

Their legal filing states that Owens disregarded substantial counter-evidence contradicting her allegations in favour of platforming known conspiracy theorists.

Owens has frequently reiterated these allegations on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.

Brigitte Macron initially encountered her now-husband when she worked as an educator at his high school.

The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
